The Journey through Grief
The obvious losses we experience are
- Death of a loved one
- Divorce or breakup
- Job (by layoff or retirement)
- Independence (financial or personal)
- Safety (after violent crime/tragedy)
- Health (especially with terminal illness)
- Home (by foreclosure/fire/divorce, etc.)

Other, not so obvious losses include loss of cherished goals or dreams, separation from loved ones and loss of status or stability. Each loss brings an injury to our entire system. It is NORMAL to experience:
- Sadness, depression, anger, guilt, relief
- Feelings of helplessness, fear, and emptiness
- Irritability, trouble concentrating, low energy
- Changes in appetite, sexual drive, and sleep
Recovery from loss moves back and forth through:
- Shock / Denial / Numbness
- Questioning/ Anger or Guilt/ Depression
- Acceptance/ Moving On to
- Healing!
